Are You Now @ Wall House #2

Three northern artists show their work in the new exhibition Are You Now in Wall House #2: Gabrielle Kroese, Sabine Liedtke and Ismaël Lotz. The title refers to Lotz’ project, but encompasses the work of all three artists; the space that arises from limitation and how they use this space through their work and communicate it to the viewer.

“Kroese’s second working visit to Japan in 2020 could not take place because of COVID-19. It was precisely because of this that the painted print series was created, in which she worked with photographs she had previously made in the botanical garden in Munich; archived nature as a symbol of the current pandemic.

At the beginning of the pandemic, the sky was of an unprecedented clear bottomless blue. Kroese has photographed this over and over again. The new colour that arose from this is what she calls Covid_Blue. For the series Covid_Blue she edited photographs she had previously made in Munich with these blue areas of colour. By distorting the image, she wants to slow down the viewing in order to intensify it. This working method is characteristic for her paintings.”

Wall House #2 is located in Groningen at the Hoornse Meer and was designed by American architect John Hejduk (New York 1929 – 2000). Wall House #2 is managed by the Groninger Museum since 2016.

Wall House #2 adheres to the national guidelines of the RIVM. To ensure the safety of visitors and staff, a limited number of visitors are allowed into the building at one time. Wearing a mouth mask is compulsory inside.
