artist in residence @ Joya AIR
I spent two weeks as an artist in residence at Joya-air, an international residency for artists and writers at the intersection of creativity and environment in the Parque Natural Sierra María – Los Vélez, Andalucía, Spain.
I have experienced this period as an enormous wealth of time and focus. I worked on a color hunting concept that has been in my head for some time, but that I never really had the time to actually implement. For some time now I have wanted to investigate whether it is possible to make my own color dictionary based on a specific place.
Using samples I have found in the immediate vicinity of Joya; such as plants, stones, sticks, earth, berries, etc., I made a color sample and a color capsule.
During this residency I captured 33 color capsules and 66 different colors based on the immediate vicinity of Joya. Together they form Joya’s color dictionary.
And aren’t they beautiful!
It inspires me to explore and investigate it further. It’s just a start…
